Recordings become text, on your Mac

On macOS 26 or later, Apple transcribes supported languages on device for free. Drop an M4A, MP3, or WAV file, review the transcript, then use it in any mode.

Files read on device

Read PDF, DOCX, and TXT files locally, with on-device text recognition for images and scanned PDFs. Source documents stay on your Mac; extracted text follows your model-sharing permissions.

Fixes text where it already is

Select text in Mail, Pages, or Notes and use Proofread or Rewrite from Services to replace it in place. No Accessibility permission or simulated keystrokes are needed.

Follow up on anything

A proofread, a translation, a dictionary entry: every result is the start of a thread, and you can switch models halfway through it.

Your keys, your bill, or no bill

Apple Intelligence costs nothing and stays local. Cloud models run on your own account, straight to the provider. With Pro, a model on your own machine works too, through LM Studio or Ollama.

Warns before secrets leave

Secret Protection can warn before sending text that appears to contain passwords, tokens, or API keys to a remote provider. It is on by default.

Cleans hidden characters

Optional text cleanup removes unwanted invisible characters on your Mac while preserving code blocks and characters needed for emoji and writing systems. It does not remove every form of AI watermark.

Several languages in one run

Translate into Serbian, Spanish, and Japanese at once, keep recent targets one click away, and let Langmin notice when the text is already in the target language. Serbian works in both scripts.

Built for learners

Choose CEFR language level A, B, or C. Hear dictionary examples, add illustrations, and follow highlighted text during narration.

Drop a recording. Keep the words.

Meeting audio, voice memos, lectures, interviews: drag an M4A, MP3, or WAV file into the input and the transcript lands as editable text, ready for any mode.

  • Transcribed on your Mac, free

    Apple speech recognition runs on device on macOS 26 or later. Choose a supported language or use your Mac's language. macOS may download a speech model after asking you. Recordings stay on your Mac, and Apple Intelligence is not required.

  • Or OpenAI with your key

    Pro can send a recording to GPT-Transcribe on your own OpenAI account: it detects the language and accepts files up to 25 MB. Langmin asks for separate audio-sharing permission before uploading.

  • Then do something with it

    The transcript is plain text in the input. Review it, then summarize the meeting, translate the interview, or proofread the dictated draft. You can choose different providers for transcription and writing.

  • Documents and images, the same way

    PDF, Word, and text files are read on your Mac; screenshots and scanned PDFs go through on-device OCR. Source documents are not uploaded. Extracted text follows the same model-sharing permissions as typed text.

Follow-ups

Ask a follow-up. Keep the thread.

Every result has a conversation under it. Ask for an example, a shorter version, another language, or a different tone, and the answer lands right below the original.

  • Request changes in plain words

    Each follow-up includes the original request, result, and recent conversation. Ask for changes such as “shorter” or “now in Serbian.” Return sends, Shift-Return adds a line, Escape keeps your draft.

  • Switch models mid-thread

    The picker under the field can use any model you have enabled, and every reply says which one wrote it.

  • Saved, narrated, printed, together

    Save to the Library and the whole thread comes along; new replies update the saved item. Narration reads the follow-ups too, ⌘P prints the conversation, and any reply can be edited in place.

Edit an answer, clean up unwanted invisible characters, and print or save it as a PDF.

Edit the result yourself

Edit Text turns any result into a small editor: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, links, headings, lists, and quotes, with ⌘Z to undo. Done applies the change everywhere: copies, exports, later follow-ups, and the saved Library item.

Watermark removal

Optional cleanup removes unwanted zero-width spaces, word joiners, soft hyphens, and stray byte-order marks on your Mac. It preserves code blocks and characters needed for emoji and writing systems. This is character cleanup, not a guarantee that text is free of AI watermarks.

Print and PDF

Share → Print… or ⌘P prints the result, its images, and the finished follow-ups on a clean white page with page numbers. Save as PDF from the same dialog.

Everywhere you write

Part of your Mac, not another tab.

Langmin lives in the menu bar and answers to global shortcuts, the Services menu, drag and drop, pasted links, and a URL scheme.

  • Menu bar and global shortcuts

    Copy text, then press ⌃⇧1 through ⌃⇧6. A small panel keeps your app in front. Proofread and Rewrite copy the fix back; Explain, Summarize, and Translate show the answer right in the panel until you open it or dismiss it.

  • Services menu

    Select text in any app and pick Langmin from its Services menu. Proofread and Rewrite replace the selection in place, with no Accessibility permission and no synthetic keystrokes.

  • Documents, images, audio, and links

    Read documents and screenshots on your Mac. Transcribe recordings with Apple on device or OpenAI with your permission. Paste a link into Explain or Summarize to read the page first.

  • Shortcuts and automation

    The langmin:// URL scheme runs any mode with explicit text, opens Compose, or shows the Library.

Built for the keyboard

Every mode, every option, without touching the mouse.

Find actions in one search field and keep favorite modes as chips. Each mode has its own options menu.

  • ⌘K finds any action

    Type a few letters, press Return to run. Tab pins a mode as a chip so your favourites stay one keystroke away.

  • A menu behind every chip

    Style, answer language, language level, and extra languages, set per mode and remembered. ⌘, opens it from the palette.

  • Shortcuts you choose

    ⌃⇧1 to ⌃⇧6 run the modes from any app, ⌃⇧L opens the Library, and ⌘↩ runs whatever is in the window. Change global shortcuts in Settings.

Text generation uses Apple Intelligence by default when it is available: free, on device, and nothing leaves your Mac.

  • On this Mac

    On macOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence enabled, every mode can generate text on device without an API key.

  • Your own keys

    Add a key for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, xAI Grok, or DeepSeek. Keys are stored in macOS Keychain and sent only to the corresponding provider. API usage is billed separately.

  • Local and custom models

    Point a Custom Endpoint at LM Studio, Ollama, Groq, or any OpenAI-compatible server, including models running on your own machine.

  • Web research

    Let OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini models search the web for current facts and cite their sources.

Private by design

No Langmin accounts or servers.

Your text goes only where you send it, straight from your Mac to the provider you chose. Langmin's developer never sees it.

  • Straight to the provider, nowhere else

    Your text travels from your Mac to the AI you chose and back. Langmin operates no servers that receive your text. Remote providers handle it under their own policies.

  • Nothing leaves without your say

    The first time a provider would see your text, Langmin asks. Allow one request, remember permission, or cancel. You can reset permissions in Settings. Secret Protection can also warn about text that looks like a password or API key.

  • Your keys stay in your Keychain

    API keys live in the macOS Keychain, go only to their own provider, and can be removed any time.

  • No usage tracking

    No analytics, no tracking SDKs, no background clipboard reading. App data stays in its sandboxed container, with API keys stored separately in Keychain. iCloud Library sync stays off until you enable it.

Any result can be narrated, follow-ups included, and dictionary entries pronounce the headword and every example.

    With your key: Cedar, Nova, Marin, and the rest of OpenAI Speech, or Grok's multilingual Iris, Altair, Eve, and more.

  • Playback controls

    Skip five seconds either way, pick the speed, and watch the sentence being read light up. Save the audio next to the text.

Dictionary

Look it up. Hear it. See it. Keep it.

Look up a word to see definitions grouped by part of speech, pronunciation, numbered meanings, examples, synonyms, antonyms, and common phrases. You can also add an illustration.

  • Every word and sentence has a play button

    Hear the headword, each part of speech, and every example sentence. Apple voices speak on device; OpenAI and Grok voices join in with your key.

  • A picture, when you want one

    Turn on Illustration and each lookup gets an image: Image Playground draws it on your Mac, or OpenAI draws it with your key. Replace, remove, or export it any time.

  • Written for your level

    Pick CEFR level A, B, or C and the definitions and examples match it. Entries can add a section in your own language, with the translated word and its own pronunciation.

  • Keep what you are learning

    Save an entry to the Library with one click, picture included, and star the words you are drilling. Entries stay on your Mac and sync through iCloud only if you enable it.

Save your results and return to them later.

Save any result with one click. Star favourites, file them into folders, filter by language, and find them again with search. Library opens in the main window, detaches into its own when you want it to, and answers to ⌃⇧L from anywhere.

    A saved result keeps its follow-ups, its edits, its narration, and its pictures. Reopen it and continue the conversation at the same language level.

  • Favourites and folders

    Star what matters and group the rest by project, class, or language, in the same window every mode saves into.

  • Yours, on every Mac

    The Library lives in the app's own container. With Pro, iCloud sync carries results, folders, conversations, images, and audio to your other Macs through your own Apple Account, and works offline in between. If Pro lapses, everything stays readable and exportable.

The trial begins after you accept its notice at first launch. It needs no card or additional account, starts no subscription, and charges nothing. Trial timing stays on your Mac. Provider API charges are separate. If a subscription lapses, Langmin returns to the free tier and everything in your Library stays readable and exportable.

US base prices are shown in USD. Apple converts prices for other App Store regions and handles purchases, renewals, and refunds. Lifetime purchases do not appear in Apple's subscription settings.

Small things, done carefully.

Clipboard etiquette

Langmin reads the clipboard only when you invoke an action. If you copy something else while a proofread is still running, it asks before replacing it.

Webpage reading

Paste a link into Explain or Summarize and Langmin fetches the page on your Mac, excerpts long pages, and keeps images only when you ask for a detailed answer.

Translate knows when to stop

If the whole text is already in a target language, Translate says so and leaves your clipboard alone instead of rewriting it.

Menu bar mode

Close every window and Langmin keeps running in the menu bar for shortcuts and Services; ⌘Q quits it. The Library opens in the main window or in its own, and Langmin remembers which you prefer.

Humanize

Humanize asks the model for more natural phrasing while preserving meaning. It does not promise to evade AI detectors.

Sandboxed

Langmin runs in the App Sandbox and uses macOS Services and the clipboard without Accessibility permission or simulated copy-and-paste keystrokes.

Requirements

An Apple-silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later. Apple Intelligence needs macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence turned on. Apple transcription also needs macOS 26 and a supported language. Cloud providers need your own API key.

Source available

The app's source is published on GitHub under the PolyForm Strict License 1.0.0 with added permissions, so you can read exactly what leaves your Mac.
